ACC, AHA Issue New Acute Coronary Syndromes Guideline

The newest clinical guideline released by the ACC and the American Heart Association (AHA) includes new evidence and updated recommendations for managing patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

The guideline primarily focuses on the management of type 1 acute myocardial infarction – both NSTEMI and STEMI – and includes recommendations addressing initial evaluation and management of suspected ACS, standard medical therapies, reperfusion strategies, catheterization lab considerations, cardiogenic shock management, long-term management and secondary prevention, and more. Poster Deadline EXTENDED to Friday Jan. 31 for Midwest WIC Symposium

The 2025 Midwest WIC Symposium’s Poster Contest is open for submissions!

CV Team members, Fellows in Training, Residents & Medical Students are welcome to submit research or case studies for consideration by January 31, 2025. There will be an award for first, second, and third place in each category.

Presenters will be judged on the following criteria: originality, scientific content, presentation and answer to questions raised by the case. Winners will be announced on-site at the 2025 Midwest WIC Symposium.

ACC Legislative Conference 2024

ACC-Minnesota was represented at ACC’s Legislative Conference 2024 in Washington, DC. The three-day meeting offers cardiovascular clinicians spanning the entire care team a chance to hear from ACC leaders, staff and other experts on health policy issues affecting patients and the profession, while also providing an important opportunity to speak directly with members of Congress and their staff.

Fellows in Training, residents and medical students are invited to participate in the 2024 Midwest Cardiovascular Forum Poster Contest. There will be an award for first, second, and third place in each category. Presenters will be judged on the following criteria: originality, scientific content, poster and answer to questions raised by the case. Winners will be announced on-site at the 2024 Midwest Cardiovascular Forum.

Contest Eligibility:

  • There are Fellow, Resident, and Medical Student categories in this contest.
  • There are two types of entries: Case Studies and Research.
  • The research or work submitted must be recent. June 2022-October 2024 is the timeframe for consideration of poster work.
  • Conference registration is free to those who have a poster accepted in the competition.

  1. Review cardiac amyloidosis and its pathogenesis, subtypes, prevalence and the importance of identification of ATTR-CM.
  2. Identify signs, symptoms and modalities used for screening for ATTR-CM in everyday practice.
  3. Discuss the Multi-Societal Expert Consensus Recommendations (MECR) on imaging cardiac amyloidosis and describe the role of echocardiography, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and nuclear scintigraphy in diagnosing and typing of patients with suspected or known cardiac amyloidosis.
  4. Review and discuss a patient case study.
